Our verdict: the best free place to learn and play Euchre online. Tableza plays standard partnership Euchre to 10, with stick the dealer and going alone. It labels your bowers on screen, sorts the left bower in with trump, and on easy a hint button shows you which card to play. Add a computer at three levels and private tables for your regular foursome, all free with nothing to download.
Best for: new players getting to grips with the bowers, and groups who want a free private table.
What is Tableza?
Tableza is a free website for classic card and tile games, with 12 games including Euchre, Spades, Hearts, Cribbage and Canasta. It runs in your browser on a computer, tablet or phone, so there’s nothing to install.
Its Euchre is the classic four-handed game: two partnerships, partners sitting across from each other, and a 24-card deck from 9 to Ace.
Euchre rules on Tableza
Here’s how Tableza plays, so you can compare it with your kitchen-table rules:
- Dealing: 5 cards each, with the top card of the kitty turned up.
- Making trump: in the first round, each player can order up the turned card or pass. In the second round, players can name another suit or pass.
- Stick the dealer: if everyone passes twice, the dealer must name trump. There’s no redeal. See our Stick the Dealer guide.
- Bowers: the jack of trump (right bower) is the highest card, and the other jack of the same color (left bower) counts as trump for the whole hand.
- Going alone: when you order up or name trump, you can choose to go alone, and your partner sits out.
- Scoring: 1 point for 3 or 4 tricks, 2 points for all 5, 4 points for all 5 alone, and 2 points to the defenders if the makers are euchred.
- Winning: the first team to 10 points.
That’s the standard game we cover in How to Play Euchre and Euchre Scoring Rules.
Built for learning the bowers
The bowers are what trip up new players, and Tableza helps with them:
- Your cards are labelled R-BOWER, L-BOWER or trump once trump is set, so you can see your trump at a glance.
- Your hand is sorted with trump on the right, left bower included.
- When you must follow suit, the table reminds you that the left bower counts as trump.
If the bowers still feel strange, our Euchre Card Ranking Explained guide sets them out step by step.
Playing against the computer
You can play the computer at three levels:
- Easy calls trump cautiously, never goes alone, and tends to play its lowest card.
- Medium uses proper calling and playing strategy, and will go alone with a strong hand.
- Hard plays like medium, and when its team makes trump it leads trump to pull the opponents’ trumps.
On easy, a hint button highlights the card it suggests you play, or the card to discard when you’re the dealer. It doesn’t advise on whether to order up or pass, so read Euchre Strategy Tips for that part.
Playing with friends or other players
